Frequently Asked Questions:

Are all gutter companies about the same?

Absolutely not! Truth is, thereís not a great deal of difference in the materials being used from one company to the next. The big difference is in the installation. Certainly, we are not the only company that can install gutters properly. However, the Mollett Family has been involved in the business since the late 1950's and our installers have been with the company 5, 10 and even 16 years. Keep in mind that our business is gutters. We do not install roofing, windows or patio enclosures.

How much do new gutters cost?
The cost depends on the size of your home and the size and type of gutters your home needs. We have had jobs as low as $200 and as high as $20,000.

The average cost is around $800

The nails or spikes keep coming loose in our old gutters. Is there a better way to attach them?
The original installer probably missed the rafters and the spikes were driven through the æ gutter board. Hidden Hangers attached with screws can be used. However,
they are not necessarily better than spikes. This is where a good installer is important. Great care must be taken in making sure the fastener goes into the rafter.

Do I need 5" or 6" gutters?
The most common size for residential construction is 5" gutters with 2" x 3" downspouts. However, the size and number of downspouts is often more important than gutter size. Each 2" x 3" downspout will carry approximately 600 sq ft of roof area where a 3" x 4" downspout will carry approximately 1,200 sq ft. The 3" x 4" downspout will carry twice the amount of water and it will not clog as easily as the 2" x 3". Most overflow problems are caused by undersized downspouts and/or not enough downspouts.

Will gutter guards (screens) keep all debris out of our gutters? And how do you compare screens with the solid covers that are being advertised everywhere?
No. Screens will deep most large debris such as leaves and twigs out of the gutters. The solid covers seem to work if the roof is not too steep. However, these covers can cost over $10.00 per foot compared to gutter guards at around $1.50 per foot.
